Finally great style with quality protection and comfort
Good looking, durable and functional. I'm 6'3 280 lbs and usually a 42-44/34. Got these in the 44. Could actually go down a size but I prefer baggy vs tight. A little too roomy in the crotch area but good in the waist and legs. If you like the skinny Jean look (I don't) probably safe to go down one size. These pants can be used for riding, work, and casual wear. It's nice having riding gear that doesn't scream motorcycle, or a member of a hazmat team.
As usual, very high quality materials and workmanship. For me, the fit is perfect. These are NOT relaxed fit, but they are not skinny fit either. Somewhere in between and they fit me perfect. Semi high rise fit around the waist area. Generous Kevlar protection inside the pants, I'm a 29 inch length and the Kevlar comes down to the 24 in length area. Good looking enough to wear when not riding.
I took the plunge on "real" riding pants last year with a pair of the Selvedge denim, and they've worked out so well that I couldn't pass up the Journeyman canvas. Same basic fit as the denim, but a bit lighter weight for summertime protection. Plenty of length in the leg, and big enough around to accommodate boots. I hope to never have to test them as "ass-savers," but I'm confident that, if it comes to that, I'll likely make out okay!
I just picked up the canvas pants and the Cali riding shirt. Leather is a hobby of mine, make my own vests, jackets, etc. Never really liked the idea of the canvas thing, but I live near Houston and out gets friggin hot. Like melt and die humid soaking hot. So I gave this stuff a try. Just took a ride in 88 degree weather...that's mild, it's only May, but it tells me a lot about this gear. Verdict: it's friggin awesome. So comfortable, near perfect sizing. Tried other kevlar lined pants, never had anything anywhere near as comfortable as this. Shirt is just outstanding. I'm 5'10" 170lbs, medium shirt, went 33 on pants. SO awesome, so comfy. Surprised at how the canvas is flexible without feeling like the stretch wear so many places put on now. Quality is exceptional. I know I'll be wearing this for years. Just a side note: there are a lot of new companies out there that are really putting customer service at the top of their priorities, but these guys at Tobacco REALLY put customer service at the top of the list. Between shipping notices, follow up emails, and just the hilarious updates they send, man these guys really seem to care about their product and your satisfaction with it. This stuff is not inexpensive, and its really nice to feel valued as a customer, but more importantly, to see that these guys value their own product so much that they make every piece feel totally reasonable and worth it. Just outstanding fellas. Gonna be buying all my gear from Tobacco.
During this pandemic I spent a lot of time doing two things: riding and buying things for my bike. Then I realized that I hadn't spent much on what would make my ride safer and more stylish. This is where these pants come in. They are not inexpensive but they are worth every penny and more. The quality and fit are second to none. As they say, you don't have to be in or near your bike for these pants to look good. I'm hooked. Now and Im am getting ready for another pair of Tobacco jeans or any IOC their other gear. Their stuff is amazing ( I also got a flannel shirt... same story)
I bought size 31. I normally buy 31-32 jeans. I was able to wear them few times but they were super tight. After washing them I am no longer able to button up. I am 6ft. A bit saddened as I liked them. I would like to buy bigger size but price is a bit too much to justify.
The Journeyman pants exceeded my expectations, and I expected a lot! I ordered the same size as my original Tobacco selvedge jeans (32) and the fit is perfect. Just like the selvedge Tobacco jeans, nobody would ever know you were wearing protective motorcycle pants. The pants are closer to hunter green than olive, and they look fantastic. I am 6'1", 185, and normally order pants in a 34 waist. These are by no means skinny fit, but if you order your normal pant size they will probably be too big.
I was very hesitant buying such an expensive pair of jeans but I NEED an everyday pair of riding jeans that I want to wear to work (construction management). The return policy of non-opened items isn't very helpful, gonna have to try the pants on to see if they fit, which means I can't return them. Reading all the product descriptions worried me even more. Options are slim-straight (most of the pant options) or relaxed parachute pants. I have never liked baggy pants, and slim/slim-straight have always been too tight. I obeyed the advice and sized up for a more "relaxed" fit, but there is nothing relaxed about it. these puppies are TIGHT, except at the waist of course. I have an athletic build and my legs show it. My waist is ~ 31 so I bought a 32. got more than an inch of space in the waist and a skin tight fit around my thighs and calves. The cherry on top is the "accordion" scrunch that happens at the back of the knees because of this fit, future chafing incoming. I'm sure these jeans are perfect for those that they are made for, the slim legged. Maybe in the future Tobacco will make a pair of jeans that suites the more athletic legged among us. My advice to the more athletic legged men out there: invest in your favorite, most comfortable pair of jeans and then go buy some genuine leather chaps.
