Nice quality pants. They are comfortable and the armor is nice. The only issue is that the sizing is a little off. I'm 5'10" 170lbs and wear a 32 in everything. These pants were way too big. They are also way too long. I have to roll up the cuff at least 6 inches. Exchanging them for a smaller size was easy enough, but they still need to be hemmed.
This is the second pair of these jeans I have ordered, so I obviously really like them. However, for some reason, these are quite a bit larger than my other pair (both 32s, but this one seems two sizes too big). That is not too big of a deal, a simple return for a smaller size would fix it and maintain a 5-star rating, however, as with my entire purchasing history with Tobacco (two jackets, a vest, two pairs of jeans, a flannel, and gloves - over $2k total), they are impossible to get ahold of for questions or return/exchange communication. No hyperbole; I have at least ten unanswered calls and emails. I was quite tempted to give two stars, as I would for almost any other retailer, but they get the third because their products are so rad. If they could get their $h1t together and up their customer service game, they would have me for life, but this is probably where my business with them will stop.
If I could read more better l, I probably wouldn't have had to return them for a smaller pair. Material was quality from my trial. Looking forward to getting my Re:Do pair so I can really give them the old college try.
First i was excited about those pants, great looking, hidden armor and all. Now though i came to a different conclusion: I’m 2 weeks into a 3 months (May 30, 2024) motorcycle trip in Europe and i experienced a few hiccups with the pants already. 1. One of the mesh pockets for the hip armor is messed up; the upper flap of the pocket was accidentally sewn to the base material when they attached/tacked the belt loop on the outside. The result is that the armor tends to slip out instead of being prevented doing so by the flap. 2. The pockets for the knee armor are on different heights comparing the legs. The armor sits higher on one leg than on the other. 3. The right leg is sort of twisted, the outside seam on the bottom hem is not in the 3 o’clock position but rather in the 1 o’clock position. Consequently the knee armor is not centered on the knee cap but 40mm to the left. 4. I washed the pants 4 times so far. 2 days ago i did so again. I removed the armor but forgot to close the zippers for the knee armor pockets. When i took it out of the washer and dried it and wanted to replace the knee armor, the mesh pocket of one leg somehow was inside out and offered no access. Me and a friend tried for 2 hrs to rectify it by pulling the pants inside out and back in different ways, under and over the Kevlar lining, etc., To no avail and lots of frustration. I ended up cutting a slot into the mesh in order to replace the armor. Also, the seam above the zipper came undone more than an inch/25mm and i had to sew it back together. Conclusion: Now I’m very disappointed as I’m on my trip and don’t really have a choice but to wear a defect pair of pants. I expected much more after paying more than $400 for it. I feel like having been ripped off.
Overall, I'm satisfied with the quality, although I did notice some discrepancies. When I purchased, the product description indicated buttons instead of zippers, and no mention of stretch. While I was pleasantly surprised by the stretch and convenience of zippers over buttons, it deviated from my initial expectations. We did a lot of research here! Additionally, the knee pads received lacked velcro, rendering them useless in the jeans. The customer service experience was also frustrating; calls went unanswered, and email responses were unhelpful. Despite these issues, my husband decided to keep the jeans. However, I urge you to improve customer service and ensure accurate product descriptions. It's crucial for customer satisfaction and loyalty.
Bit long. Odd design choice. High quality though.
This is my second pair of Ironsides. As many note there's not a ton of room in the butt and thighs for those with a more athletically built lower half. Because of that, I decided to bump up to a 32" waste, which worked out great. It's been a few years since I ordered my first pair, which I was immediately impressed with on the quality. They were heavy, dark denim with clean, straight stitching everywhere. These new ones still "feel" pretty quality, but the denim has a slightly less deep color and the stitching on the pocket designs and seams is a little all over the place. Ordinarily, whatever no big deal. But at $400+, I feel like the workmanship could be a little better. Again, fit is great, lining is great, but seems like the factory changed or someone had an off day.
These fit, feel and wear amazingly. They will definitely last a very long time. They wear great while riding, and the armor protection fits perfectly and doesn't move around much. The only concern I have is the quality of the Knee pocket zippers. I feel like these will break very easily.
Overall customer service experience was just good. I will not say the same about the quality of the denim. The dyeing was less than fair. Also the selvedge outseam in the photos are not the same outseam you’ll be receiving. Not worth the money if they’re not going to sell you a product as advertised. YMMV
The Ironsides are great so far, comfortable and good looking as well. Hip armor is perfect, knee armor is a little awkward and uncomfortable but will feel better as the jeans are broken in I’m sure. Very happy with the jeans so far.
