Living in a warm climate, I've always wrestled with the tradeoff between protection and comfort...and as much as no one likes to admit, style. In warmer months, comfort usually won out. No more. The California Riding Shirt checks all the boxes for me...protection, comfort, and style (both on and off the bike). Game changer.
Have purchased a riding shirt, vest, and these Ironside jeans along with the armor inserts for everything last year in preparation for my first bike. I wanted to hold off on my review until I could ride in them, and now here we are. All of the gear is *very* high quality, and the riding shirt and vest fit like a glove, unfortunately, the jeans are a bit big but that was my own fault. I normally have to order a size up in everything since so many companies/stores have slimmer fitting garments but not Tobacco Motorwear which is a real refresher! Now that I know how their garments fit (and can clearly see they stand by their quality) I will definitely be picking up another pair of jeans in the near future. Some other things to note: Armor inserts for hips and knees sit exactly where they should. The kevlar and mesh lining is silky smooth. Absolutely no rubbing/chaffing or uncomfortable stitching on anything. Love how high the jeans rise to offer additional protection and coverage when riding. Everything looks amazing and many people will ask you where you got your gear from!
These are the best riding jeans ever!! They will keep you safe in style. Buy some and you will see.
I've had my Ironsides for almost a year now, and I can't say enough good things about them. They've fit true to size and been comfortable since day one, even if there was a little stiffness to work out the first couple of rides. I love knowing I have that added protection, and though I've never been drawn to raw denim or considered myself a "raw denim guy," I can't count how many compliments I've gotten on these jeans! I wear these every single ride, no matter the weather, and I've never been disappointed. These have handled temps ranging from the 30s or lower up to the high 90s with a heat index over 110. Granted, I did open the knee armor pockets for some extra ventilation on that hot ride to Florida! My biggest problem? Deciding on what pair I want to pick up next so I can mix it up!
I love my Tobacco jeans. They’re sturdy and look look so good I always want to put them on before I go ride. The fit felt a bit “tight” when I first got them, but after a couple rides they started to break-in, and now they feel as comfortable as any pants I own.
Fit well, though I wish they made these in a shorter length and a touch slimmer. Armor sits in the right places compared to other pants I've tried/own.
They look nice, theyre sturdy, nice denim. Gives me piece of mind knowing I’m as protected as I can be doing what I love. The armor goes in and out easily and you can’t tell it’s in- the jeans look cool regardless. Take note the armor is sold separately!! It was expensive but I’m happy with the purchase.
These jeans are wonderfully comfortable, but the zipper pull tab was bent over when they arrived. I was able to carefully straighten it out, but a little worried I might break it in half as I did it. It's a high-quality zipper, so thankfully the good metal bent back nicely. They are LONG, but roll up easily. It took some getting used to doing so, but now that I have ridden with them rolled up a few times they fit great. So far, they are the only jeans I will be using when I ride. Also, currently wearing in my new Mavericks to go along with the Ironsides.
I ordered the 32" waist size, as all of my pants are. At first I was slightly disappointed as they were rather snug, but after a couple days wearing them they stretched out to a very comfortable fit. Not ti mention they're my best looking pair of jeans (not that I'm some kinda pants aficionado or something). The armor is very easy to slip in and out (though holds securely when in place) which is nice for commuting to work and other destinations. I had one small issue where a seam in the Kevlar lining started coming undone, so I sent in an email asking what could be done. Their employee Cisco was quick to respond with multiple ways we could handle it and was very personable. I got the issue resolved in no time.
Love my Ironsides so far. I'm 6'1 and they are exceptionally long ...but nothing a tailor and $20 can't fix up for me. I love that they are a bit stretchy and the quality is outstanding. These might be more expensive than other 'riding jeans' on the market ...but trust me and get these.
